Instructor Re-Certification

Certified The American Heart Association Instructor Re-certification Course teaches the methods needed to effectively instruct others in CPR/AED and First Aid Courses.

Upon successful completion of this course you will receive your American Heart Association Instructor card along with a Healthcare Provider card before leaving class.

These are both a two year certification card.

Please note there are prerequisites for this course. To be a certified instructor, you must have a current Healthcare Provider card and certificate demonstrating completion of the Core Instructor Course. You are also required to have taught 4 courses over the course of the previous certification.

In order to receive your Instructor Certification, we have to observe you teaching a class. As a convenience to you, we offer a micro-teaching topic that you will prepare and present to the class the date of the course. This topic will be emailed to you. This is not a formal presentation requiring visuals or handouts rather it is an opportunity to be observed and assisted by an instructor.

The price for the Instructor Re-Certification course is $95.

As of April 26, 2010
- * EMS treats about 300,000 victims of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest each year in the U.S.
- * Less than eight percent of people who suffer cardiac arrest outside the hospital survive.
- * Less than one-third of out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrest victims receive bystander CPR.
- * Effective bystander CPR, provided immediately after sudden cardiac arrest, can double or triple a victim’s chance of survival.
- * Unless CPR and defibrillation are provided within minutes of collapse, few attempts at resuscitation are successful.
- * Even if CPR is performed, defibrillation with an AED is required to stop the abnormal rhythm and restore a normal heart rhythm.
- * About 5,900 children 18 years old and under suffer out-of-hospital cardiac arrest each year.
- * The incidence of out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrest in high school athletes ranges from .28 to 1 death per 100,000 high school athletes annually in the U.S.

The Heartsaver AED Course teaches CPR for all age groups, the use of an AED, relief of choking in all ages, and use of barrier devices for all ages.
